World War 1 Centenary Event

Hartley Parish Council is organising a project to mark the Centenary of the start of World War 1. The project will include the production of an A5 booklet containing information on the history of the war memorial now located on Hartley Green, information on the eight servicemen named on the memorial and information on the servicemen from Hartley who served in WW1 and returned. You are invited to attend an ecumenical service at the War Memorial, Hartley Green, on Sunday 20th July 2014, commencing at 4.00p.m. The service will be led by the three local Churches and eight wreathes will be laid, to remember each of the eight men named on the war memorial, who lost their lives during the WW1 conflict. The service will be followed by an exhibition in Hartley Village Hall, Ash Road, where refreshments will be provided and the booklet will be made available. The Council also intends to plant a commemorative tree at Manor Field and make arrangements, with assistance from the Royal British Legion, to lay wreathes on the graves of each of the eight men named on the memorial.
